Steady on Your Feet exercise classes are aimed at older adults who lack confidence on their feet or have had a fall. It is a specialist run class, with a social opportunity afterwards (hot drinks and biscuits).
The programme comprises a block of 24 weekly sessions and from January 2025 these will run in the following areas:
Barnstaple - Bideford - Ilfracombe
We also run 'follow on' Vista Balance classes in
South Molton - Barnstaple - Braunton - Westward Ho!
Participants can attend the follow on classes for as long as they wish, and many of our clients have been attending for a few years.
The sessions are delivered by specialist qualified exercise instructors and we are looking for volunteers who would be interested in offering general support during the classes. This could be anything from "meeting and greeting" - putting out equipment - and being an extra pair of eyes during the class. It would not involve any instruction, but it is a great way of gaining insight into the role of a specialist exercise instructor if this is a career path that you are interested in.
We think we look after our volunteers well. You will receive training appropriate to your needs and aspirations, and we will support you with your personal and professional development if we can. Our volunteers are also able to attend any of our exercise classes free of charge.
As a volunteer at these classes, you will be making a real difference to the lives of older adults, who may be feeling vulnerable and isolated.
Please do get in touch if you think you would be interested in this role. We would love to invite you along to observe a session without any obligation to commit. We look forward to hearing from you.
