Tavistock Museum is a welcoming, volunteer-run charity dedicated to sharing the rich heritage of Tavistock- known as the ‘Western Gateway to Dartmoor’ - and its surrounding area. Located in an historic building at the Court Gate in the centre of Tavistock, the Museum offers displays and exhibitions that explore the town’s archaeological, industrial, cultural, and social past. With strong community connections and a focus on education and inclusion, it plays an important role in preserving local stories and linking them to the wider history of South West England and the UK. Tavistock Museum is the designated Area Centre for the UNESCO Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site. Trustees help guide the Museum’s future, ensuring it remains a valued and inspiring resource for all.
We are looking to recruit a Chair who can help us to steer the Museum’s direction for the next three years whilst ensuring robust governance. The ideal candidate will bring prior experience as a charity Trustee, strong leadership skills and an interest in the stewardship of cultural heritage.
We welcome applications from local people including the museum’s dedicated volunteers - as well as from people facing discrimination, including racialised, LGBTQ+, and disabled communities. We aim to build a balanced Board with diverse experience.
Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements to serve as a charity Trustee.
