Tavistock Museum is a welcoming, volunteer-run charity dedicated to sharing the rich heritage of Tavistock- known as the ‘Western Gateway to Dartmoor’ - and its surrounding area. Located in an historic building at the Court Gate in the centre of Tavistock, the Museum offers displays and exhibitions that explore the town’s archaeological, industrial, cultural, and social past. With strong community connections and a focus on education and inclusion, it plays an important role in preserving local stories and linking them to the wider history of South West England and the UK. Tavistock Museum is the designated Area Centre for the UNESCO Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site. Trustees help guide the Museum’s future, ensuring it remains a valued and inspiring resource for all.
Our Treasurer will be stepping back from the role later this year. So we are seeking a new Treasurer who will play a key role in overseeing the financial health of the organisation The Treasurer will have oversight of the day-to-day finances of the Museum and support the Board of Trustees carry out their governance responsibilities by providing them with digestible information about the Museum’s financial performance.
The ideal candidate will have experience of finance-related work e.g. accountancy or bookkeeping, be confident in speaking about financial matters with people without a finance background and be digitally literate in order to use online tools in the efficient conduct of the Museum’s affairs.
We welcome applications from local people including the museum’s dedicated volunteers - as well as from people facing discrimination, including racialised, LGBTQ+, and disabled communities. We aim to build a balanced Board with diverse experience.
