Join us in person for a hands-on volunteering 'Sew-cial' reclaiming creative materials.
We hope to develop a monthly, and maybe even weekly group. The activities will vary session to session but will include rotary cutting fabric, ironing, sorting industry waste wool, packaging materials, and even, from time-to-time, trialling craft kits
Significant Seams is an art for mental health and wellbeing organisation. Amongst our activities we actively 'reclaim creative materials'. - i.e. stuff that others might sideline because they think they aren't worth the effort...and put them together in kits and crafty supply packs that raises funds to enable the equal participation of people "in vulnerable life moments." There is an intentional metaphor in all this.
Whether you're into art, environmentalism, or just fancy socialising whilst doing something, this volunteering opportunity is about offering a chance to connect with others, lend a hand, and maybe even learn something new. Its about shared purpose and peer support - whether you are looking to volunteer in your interest area, or you re looking for a low pressure supportive place to be with others whilst you work through whatever it is that may be going on in your life.
Come ready to roll up your sleeves, help process undervalued materials, and connect with others in a relaxed, inspiring setting. We list full detyails of all of our sessions on Eventbrite - but the plan is to offer these at the new workshop space at Karen Gutans Art in the Creedy Centre in Crediton.
The first sessions are Thursday 17 September. (There is a morning time block and an afternoon time block - come any time that suits you: the timings are designed to create some clear boundaries to sessions, and give the faciliator a break for lunch, but this is informal and friendly. We really hope you will get involved.
