Significant Seams and Sustainable Crediton are collaborating to bring people together in creative actions that help the community adapt to the climate crisis. Activities will include making patchwork shopper bags from reclaimed fabric, hand printing wrapping papers, and printing fabric patches. The project will draw on the creative leadership and extensive equipment of local arts organisation Significant Seams, and the volunteer reach and environmentally engaged network of Sustainable Crediton.
The project will offer drop-in patchwork making sessions at the Green Hub on Crediton Town Square on a monthly basis as well as more structured and explicitly supportive patchwork courses from workshop space at The Bookery.
This volunteer opportunity is to co-host drop-in sessions - and help others to make patchwork tote bags for the project.
Volunteers will be comfortable with sewing machines, and be happy to help others. Volunteers will need to be confident enough to respond to the varied skill levels of community members and generous in sharing their know-how, but respectful in allowing each participant to make their own creative decisions.
Volunteers will be supported to share their skills as well as learn from the artists and other participants over time.
Other volunteer opportunities include:
- Making patchwork shopper bags independently, materials will be provided for free
- Representing the project at pop-up events eg the Green Fair (September), the Seedshare (February)
- Helping distribute leaflets from time to time
- Helping prepare donating fabrics (wash, dry, iron)
