Job Title: Youth Support Worker

Location: Reece Strawbridge Youth Centre

Responsible to: Youth Work Coordinator

Hours: 3 Hours per week

Pay: £12.35 to £13.17

About Reece Strawbridge Youth Centre

The Reece Strawbridge Youth Centre is a registered charity set up in 1977 to offer facilities, support children and young people and other charities or voluntary bodies by providing building / facilities and open space.

The trustees have completed the bespoke building in Coly Road, Colyton which since the beginning of April 2010 has housed Colyton Caterpillars pre-school, scouts, cubs and beaver groups and originally, a youth club. However, In March 2025 in getting a Youth Work Coordinator to run the Youth Service. We have been running youth club & project youth sessions for young people in Colyton and surrounding areas.

We are looking for Youth Support Workers to join us at Reece Strawbridge Youth Centre to support the Youth Work Coordinator to deliver a robust Youth Service in Colyton.

Purpose of Job:

To support in the delivery of quality youth work sessions on behalf of Reece Strawbridge Youth Centre. Ensuring that all youth work activities is well planned, safe, inclusive, well-resourced and meaningful evaluated, to the standards outlined by Reece Strawbridge Youth centre polices, practice guidance and core training modules.

To be flexible and support the delivery of youth work as required and in line with service need; to include:

  • Street Based & Detached Youth Work
  • Centre Based Youth Work
  • Projects Youth Work

Key Responsibilities:

Engage and be inclusive of all young people, actively respecting their diverse needs and lived experiences. Actively support Youth Work Coordinator and teams to achieve team targets and ambitions set by Youth Work Coordinator and Trustees of Reece Strawbridge Youth Centre.

Work flexibly during the day, in the evenings and at weekends. Build positive relationships with young people. Contribute to the design and delivery of fundraising events and activities with local and organisation income generations targets.

Be kind, work in an anti-oppressive and trauma-informed way, demonstrate Reece Strawbridge Youth Centre values in all that you do. Keep evidence of youth work activity to contribute to the team’s portfolio. Plan and deliver individual activities in line with the team’s programme offer.

Core Tasks:

Working with young people, agencies, partners, Parents & carers as appropriate:

  1. Contribute to planning and delivery of street & detached based youth work, centre based youth work and project youth work sessions
  2. Contribute to Youth Centre being well maintained, clean and inviting to young people
  3. Support young people to be engaged in planning, delivery and evaluation of their local service and have opportunities to influence the organisation
  4. Create an environment that is fun and engaging for young people and is welcoming to partners, visitors and wider community
  5. contribute to the delivery of a needs-led educational curriculum that inspires and challenges young people appropriately
  6. Be a team player who is prepared to share ideas, make the best use of resources, have a go at new things, have fun and take a few risks in supportive environments
  7. contribute to the centre’s accreditation offer, meet local targets and engage in celebration events
  8. Identify vulnerable young people early, in the context of their everyday lives
  9. Provide support for young people during transitions, for example moving on from school or from the support of one service to another as need change
  10. Work with schools, home education and other agencies that young people may benefit from youth work provision
  11. Contribute to the promotion of open-access youth work
  12. Actively recruit young volunteers and support their development
  13. Undertake routine health and safety functions as directed by the Youth Work Coordinator and ensure that food hygiene standards are adhered to

  • Be flexible, dynamic and ready to move with the changing and improving pathways of the organisation

Skill Set and Specification:

Essential:

  • Commit to complete mandatory training required for the role
  • Commitment to achieve Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in a negotiated time scale – including some voluntary hours to complete
  • Literacy and numeracy skills fitting for the post
  • Experience or motivation of working with teenagers, familities or communities in either formal or non-formal setting or A high commitment to learning to work with young people and demonstrated understanding of the issues they face
  • Planning and delivery of personal and social educational programmes or projects that have inspired and challenged young people appropriately
  • Working as part of a team
  • With the ability to support and challenge co workers in supportive ways that nurture and encourage mutual growth and development
