Come and join our friendly team of walking volunteers who offer year-round walks to the public, our day visitors and with groups and organisations who support people who would otherwise struggle to access nature and the National Trust.
We offer walks specifically tailored to groups’ needs, as well as short (1.5 - 3 miles) public walks that may include: Sharing knowledge on the ongoing nature restoration work on the estate, learning to ID some of our many trees and plants, or the history of Arlington, it's landscape and the people who lived on and around it. We also lead 5+ mile, 'Active Hike' walks that get people who are looking for a little bit more, out on to the wider, wilder estate and tackle some more challenging terrain, all with the support of a group and trained walk leaders.
Our volunteers are under direct report of the Walking Volunteers Manager and so are fully supported in the role. We offer induction and training and there is no obligation to sign up to any of the walks – you do what you can commit to. We also have monthly meetings on the last Friday of each month where we might learn from the (Ranger/ Gardener) experts in their field, or discuss ideas; finding opportunities to expand and develop the Group Walks Programme or to plan for the next season.
We have some people who choose to lead walks, or help with admin, and others who prefer to act as a support person during group walks. We have ideas brewing about different themed walks we could offer and are keen for new people to join us. Currently there are 10 volunteers, and the age range is between 40's and 70's and whilst we would happily welcome more people from within that group, we would also love to widen that group to include a wider range of demographics of age and life experiences.
