The Pilgrim Heritage Sailing Foundation requires a new volunteer member willing to manage our inventory and sales of merchandise on behalf of our wonderful 'old lady of the seas', the heritage sailing trawler Pilgrim of Brixham.
Historically, a selection of Polo shirts, Caps, Beenies, Hooded sweatshirts and various other items have been offered via the Charity's web site and at various events such as public Open Days. All of our items are branded with our logo and we maintain a small inventory to be able to offer items immediately.
This approach limits the range of items which we can offer (particularly clothing as for intentory purposes we'd need to keep items in stock over a wide range of sizes). We're also aware that suppliers now exist able to turn around items very quickly, often for delivery within one or two days from order, against a 'virtual shop' featuring a much wider range of designs than we can currently carry.
The feeling of our Trustees is that merchandise could generate a much larger contribution to our charity's income than it currently does, but none of our current members (the charity has some 70 members of which maybe 20 are currently active) has been able to 'step up' to manage this aspect of our operation. This should really not take much time, but does require some innovative thinking and preferably some experience in retail or promotion to help guide our way. We do have resources available for Social Media and Web development, but really do need someone to pick up the baton on this and the right person could have a real impact on Pilgrim's long-term prospects!
Ideally we're looking for someone living within easy reach of Brixham where we're based, i.e. throughout the Torbay, Teignbridge or South Hams areas ideally.
This is an important time for Pilgrim as, after a couple of years of limited activities due to extended maintenance and re-fit work, we've just published a schedule of public sailings from the summer of 2027, which should increase thereafter. All of our members have the opportunity for some sailing days on board (at events like the ever-popular Brixham Heritage Regatta, for example) or to train as potential volunteer crew or engage with other aspects of our operation such as maintenance, of which we have plenty to do, particularly over the winter months.
If you've any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us - we're a friendly bunch and we really need your help.
Many thanks!
