We are running this event as part of ACRE's Village Halls Week 2025 campaign, shining a spotlight on the contribution that England's 10,000+ village halls make to rural communities. The findings from the English Community and Village Hall Survey, 2020 put this into context:
- Half of all Village Halls in England say they are concerned about recruiting new volunteers but help and support is available.
- 88% of England's 10,000+ halls are charities, and are run almost entirely by volunteers.
- Volunteers usually live in the local community and come from all walks of life, but there is a need to recruit younger people.
We support many of these vitally important volunteers through our Community Buildings Service at Devon Communities Together, providing advice, support, and training to our village halls and community buildings membership. You can read more about on our website Village Halls and Community Buildings | Devon Communities Together
At the 2024 AGM, we delivered a Village Hall Q&A event, in which more than 30 halls were in attendance. The feedback was very positive, where we facilitated a range of different discussions, ranging from governance to funding sources, to obtaining best-value village hall insurance.
