| Role summary | Love plants but not strenuous gardening? This role could be for you. Our Killerton Plant Centre volunteers are crucial in helping to look after and sell our plants to visitors with the aim being to help generate income to support the wider estate. |
| What's involved? | The Plant Centre is part of the overall shop and is situated within a beautiful walled courtyard and we take great pride in procuring unusual varieties of plants to reflect what is growing in the gardens and keeping the plant centre a desirable place for visitors to relax, explore and shop. • Maintaining health of plants through watering, pruning, and general care and attention. • Making every visitor feel welcome, and be able to answer visitors questions about Killerton • Potentially serving customers and putting sales through the till Keeping the plant centre clean and tidy. • Being aware of any security risks, and raising any concerns you have with staff You are important in making sure things run as smoothly and safely as possible – this includes getting to know health and safety and evacuation procedures • There might occasionally be some other activities that are of interest to you, that we could use your help with. E.g. decorating the shop for Christmas! Being part of a team that may need to adapt and change in response to local needs, National Trust priorities or changes to government guidelines e.g .Covid We want all our volunteers to feel welcome and to have an equally positive experience when volunteering with us. So, volunteers will: Be provided ongoing support from our Growing Support Consultants. Be provided the necessary induction, training, equipment and reasonable adjustments to do this role well and safely. Be offered expenses to cover agreed travel costs between home and place of volunteering. Have remote access to support, news and rotas via our volunteer website. |
| This role will suit you if you are... | We are looking for volunteers to join us on Mon, Thurs, Fri Sat and/or Sunday's • Have some experience or interest in looking after plants (this can be just with your home gardening, further training will be provided). • Knowledge of plant health is highly desirable • Enjoy working alongside visitors and other team members • Interested in helping us make a profit to support our work as a charity • Available at least once a fortnight All National Trust volunteers will be asked to Respect and uphold the National Trust values whilst volunteering with us. · Complete training required of all NT volunteers and any role specific training. · Adhere to relevant policies and processes including safeguarding, health and safety, and equality and diversity. |
