Our Charity has an urgent need for volunteers willing to take responsibility for a range of tasks needed to keep our wonderful Victorian Sailing Trawler afloat and in Torbay. As the oldest surviving Brixham-built sailing trawler, Pilgrim is a heritage vessel of national significance and she's a much loved asset to the town of Brixham.
Sadly though, without new volunteers willing to stand up and take some responsibility in key positions, the Trustees will have to explore options to let her go, to potential owners either elsxewhere in the UK or abroad.
In particular, right now, we have a need for people to fill the following roles:
1. Company Secretary
Essentially, this involves maintaining statutory registers (directors, members), organizing board meetings, preparing agendas, taking minutes, and filing annual returns and other essential documents with Companies House and the Charity Commission.
2. Membership Secretary
Ensuring that new members are welcomed and brought on board successfully, and that the membership records and associated payments are well documented and maintained.
Please note that, these two roles can readily be combined (previous CoSecs have also taken on the Membership Secretary role). The work-load is not too onerous and it should only take a few hours per month to keep on top of both.
3. Merchandising Manager
Essentially, managing our merch inventory and how we offer this to members of the public, through both our web site and at events throughout the year
Note that these are necessarily non-paid positions. All of the active members, including Trustees of our Charity, are unpaid volunteers. Also, we're really looking for candidates from the Brixham or wider Torbay area for these roles. We feel that regular contact with both the vessel and with other local members is important to maintain our sense of community associated with our operation.
