As a dancer with over 25 years experience, I have started up a new scottish country dancing class on Tuesday evenings at the Bran Hall in Galmpton, at the southern end of Paignton. The class is from 7 - 9pm for beginners and improvers. Men and women welcome. (No kilts or swords required.)
Try something new! Come on your own, with a friend or as part of a group. Similar to ceilidh dancing, although it involves a few more steps and formations. Dance to exciting, traditional toe-tapping celtic music - often fiddles and accordians (not the bagpipes!). The dancing is energetic in short bursts. You get a little rest whilst we walk through the pattern of the next dance, then off we go again! Some of the dances are the slower strathspeys.
Wear soft-soled, flat, non-slip shoes or trainers to make it easier to dance on your toes on this lovely sprung floor. Wear layered comfortable clothes to move in as we do get warm.
All you need is some enthusiasm and to be willing to hold hands with your partner and others. We swap partners every dance so it's very sociable. It's also great for keeping your brain alert as we dance different patterns on the floor, with aerobic fitness for your body.
Free, on-street parking on surrounding residential roads.
Cost of class is £5 per evening, £4 if you pay in half term blocks.
Please contact me if you are interested in the classes, so I can give you more details, including directions to the venue.
