About

Community volunteering coordinator

We are Leonard Cheshire – supporting individuals to live, learn and work as independently as they choose, whatever their ability. Led by people with experience of disability, we are at the heart of local life – opening doors to opportunity, choice, and support in communities.

My name is Tracy Baker and my role as a Community Volunteering co-ordinator involves connecting with other organisations and community groups, who have the same values and aim as our organisation.

During lockdown we focused on creating virtual activities, hosted by our volunteers. This continues to be a key part of our volunteering. Activities include Seated yoga, Seated dance, Art Club, Art, Nature & local History chat group, Wellbeing walking group, Harry Potter club, Travel stories.

We are now looking to expand our activities to include telephone meetings and face to face group which mirror our virtual sessions content.

I am currently researching Devon, Torbay and Teignbridge to find projects that mirror Leonard Cheshire’s All active together project and any gaps that would link with our new community project starting in late spring 2022.

Leonard Cheshire’s All Active together an Inclusive Communities project; a volunteer-led activities project supporting disabled people to develop skills, increase their social connections, get Active and improve their wellbeing.

Covid-19 has created new challenges and exacerbated existing barriers to inclusion for disabled people. In direct response, Leonard Cheshire will partner local organisations and collaborate with local authorities to facilitate volunteer-led projects which will offer fully inclusive opportunities for disabled people to become more active participants in their local communities. With All Active Together we aim to plug the gaps in the community to have an inclusive society,

The project’s activities are underpinned by a core theme of mental health, wellbeing, physical activity  and connectivity; it has been designed to combat loneliness and anxiety as we navigate the ‘new normal’ and re-build a society in which every person is included and valued.

Leonard Cheshire’s All Active Together is an Inclusive Communities project, it fits closely with our aims to support people with disabilities to be as active and visible in their communities as possible, promoting independence and wellbeing, to improve access to inclusivity.

We are looking to set up community activities led by volunteers that, encourage any kind of physical activity or increase in movement and wellbeing social activities to help support people who live with any kind of disability.

We are looking for information on what current community groups, organisations have set up already (to see if we can help) and to find out what new projects would be welcomed in the community.

Please contact us if you would be interested in working with us, and or interested in a volunteering role to help with the new projects.

Look forward to hearing from you.

kind regards

Tracy
