About
We rescue and rehome around 60,000 commercial egg laying hens each year.
The British Hen Welfare Trust is a national charity dedicated to giving commercial laying hens a second chance at life. Every year we work with farmers across the UK to rescue thousands of hens at the end of their commercial laying cycle and help them find safe, loving homes as family pets. With a strong volunteer network across Devon and the South West, we also provide practical guidance on hen care, promote higher welfare standards in egg production, and support vets and adopters in understanding common hen health issues. Whether through rehoming, education, or community outreach, our aim is simple: to create a kinder future for hens and to help people enjoy the rewards of giving a hen a home.
