I am a conscious touch trainer and practitioner supporting people with Anxiety, Depression and chronic pain amongst other things using nurturing consensual touch and holding.

Touch is essential to human health & well-being yet as  society we are receiving less and less due to the pandemic and social isolation. Touch can help reduce chronic pain, anxiety, and depression and help us breath better, relax and sleep well,  but unfortunately people are often touch averse because they dont feel safe as in our society touch is often misunderstood and associated with sexuality.

I set up The Conscious Touch Foundation in 2005 when working as a Somatic Psychotherapist in Wales with people suffering anxiety, depression and chronic pain and isolation. Most were aged 50+

In small groups or individually (even online) I teach people how to become aware of the different types of touch - massage, stroking, holding, rocking, gentle support  etc. as each type of touch supports us in different ways. Some times we need to feel comforted, sometimes nurtured, sometimes encouraged, invigorated or physically supported.  Touch helps release emotions like anger or grief.

I also trained 15 touch practitioners to become volunteers at local care homes and with neighbours. I received funding to hold weekly CT groups where people learned all about consent boundaries and making requests so they could practice on each other. It was very succesful. Long term friendships were made which helps reduced isolation and improve self-esteem.

Conscious Touch is a fully clothed experience - sitting/standing or lying down

You are in control of your safety in every moment. You are encouraged to state your boundaries and preferences (i.e. dont touch ears, and, I prefer firm/gentle/slow touch/holding/rocking).

It can last for two minutes up to half an hour.

It is based on mindful presence, communication, and compassion.

Regular CT groups help reduce isolation and build deeper friendship as we make time to chat, share, laugh, and sometimes cry together. 

Conscious Touch is the silent language of the body.
