A local lobbying group to improve Health Services at the Oke Community Hospital

in 2016 and 2017 , as Mayor of Okehampton we were fighting to retain our Community Beds and other services at Okehampton Hospital. We saved the Hospital but lost the Doctors Practice and many key services including our Community Beds, our Birthing Centre, Dialysis and certain cancer treatments. So to try to get these back and so we do not lose any more, I set up the North Dartmoor Health Initiative (Okehampton area covers many small rural towns and villages). Our report saved the day for us and the CCG as it then was commended us and we were recognised as a Special Case because of the rurality. Since then I attended ICB Board meetings as a reminder we exist and now the One Eastern Devon Partnership Forum where I raise the profile of our hospital as often as I can.
