Nutriri exists to reduce health inequalities by growing a ‘weight neutral’ self nurture community - we remove the focus of weight change as the main measure of success. In doing so we increase engagement and programme retention rates for existing and new provision. Creating a more sustainable approach to personal nutrition and exercise. Here’s some of our impact data, using Thriving Places ‘Happiness Pulse’ and client testimonial:

The usual suggested fix of subscribing to diet culture ‘drop excess pounds by creating a calorie deficit’, as many know, is often only a temporary solution - with most diets resulting in weight rebound 95% of the time - that’s a 5% efficacy or less! By removing ‘weight change’ as a focus and advocating an intuitive eating and movement for joy practice we create a more accessible, inclusive and sustainable approach to nutrition and exercise.

Traditional ‘weight management service’ referral > enrolment > completion rates currently stand at around 12% with about 17% achieving 5% weight loss (OHID ongoing statistics).

Nutriri were recently invited to be expert witness at the House of Commons inquiry for ‘Body image and it’s impact on physical and mental health’. Nutriri measures increases in activity, reductions in disordered eating and improvements in mental and social health. We find when NOT focussing on, and validating with, weight change - everything becomes more sustainable and enjoyable. So in comparison we achieve 80-100% completion and satisfaction rates with participants. And we work in community with people who want to intentionally change weight and those who don’t. An annual economic impact from ‘eating disorders’ has been estimated between £9-15 billion - Nutriri can reduce disordered eating in adults and their families.

We facilitate our services via our own digital learning platform www.nutriri.org and we are beginning to return to our original in-person meet-up groups. We follow the themes below using coaching and hypnotherapy (if not contraindicated) in groups and 1:1. Participants access intuitive eating skills and ‘Nurture Active’ enjoyable movement classes, to develop their own version of ease around food and body.
The following specifications were included in recent tender documentation, which speak directly to how Nutriri delivers it’s professional staff/associate training and customer focused services.
  • The Service will stay abreast of new and emerging research around different evidence-based weight management interventions and will work in partnership with Commissioners and partners to design, deliver and evaluate these locally. This may include, but is not limited to weight neutral and compassionate approaches
  • Referrals to and support from the weight management service will be for those over 18 years old. However, the Service will as part of their assessment gain information about the individual’s family and household to identify support and interventions that address the correlation between parent and child obesity. The Service will therefore be designed and provided in a way that supports adults to change eating practices in their homes which will benefit children and adolescents. Collaborative working with the 0-19 service will be required to coordinate efforts to support the whole family.
