Official Prison Visitor (volunteer) - branch chairperson

I am currently the branch chairperson of the National Association of Prison Visitors at Channings Wood prison in Denbury. We are a small group of volunteers who commit to making regular visits to prisoners who have no-one on the ‘outside’ to visit them or who request a visitor for other reasons. In making these visits we ‘bring the outside in’ and provide friendship to the prisoners we visit enabling them to stay in touch with the outside world. This can greatly benefit an individual’s mental health and can also help to make their transition back into normal life easier.
