Job Coach Supported Internship at Petroc College, Barnstaple

I support students with additional needs to find jobs work experience and volunteer work in the local area. As a job coach, we accompany students to their placements and work alongside them until they feel confident enough in the role for us to withdraw gradually. This could take from one to three months depending on the student and their varied skills and abilities. Many struggle with anxiety, low self esteem and lack of confidence initially. The Supported Internship scheme helps to build confidence, lower anxiety and increase resilience. The course lasts for a year and students are placed with local businesses or Charity organisations depending on their personal needs. They gradually build up their hours from a few hours to 3-4 days a week over the course of the year.
