We link volunteers with adults with learning difficulties in order to attend community ‘gigs’ and events of a shared interest.
We are based in Exeter. Our aim is to support people with learning disabilities in our local community, to participate in mainstream community activities. We link volunteers with participants who have similar interests, so that they can attend events and build friendships. We hope to help reduce social isolation for people with disabilities by providing stimulating and fun experiences for both volunteers and participants in the project.
Buddies (volunteers) and participants are encouraged to meet together regularly in order to plan the ‘gigs’ they are wanting to attend together. We suggest planning at least one gig a month and we would ask volunteers to sign up with the intention of staying with the project for at least a year. The aim of the scheme is to build lasting relationships, not just attend one off events. We provide volunteers with training, ongoing support and the opportunity to participate in periodic social events. Please email us for an informal chat, or just to get more information.
