Welcoming visitors on guided tours of the last working water powered forge in England.
Finch Foundry is a water powered forge which was turned into a museum in the 1970s. Since 1994 it has been run by the National Trust and we welcome around 7,500 visitors a year on guided tours of the site. During their tours the public can experience the sights, sounds and smells of a time gone by and learn about the history of this important little factory on the edge of Dartmoor. We can still demonstrate and show some of the Victorian machinery, including huge hammers, shears and a sharpening stone. We also provide a small cottage garden, picnic area and second hand bookshop, as well as access to walks along the River Taw and on to Belstone.
