‘Planting hope for a brighter future’
Who are we?
We are currently a small but diverse collection of people from the Bideford area with a vision to be part of a positive change in the community.
We wish to address social deprivation, food poverty and associated poor health and also tackle social isolation and loneliness by developing friendship and trust through working towards a common goal.
We currently have use of a small allotment in Bideford (provided by Bideford Sustainability Group) and are reaching out to other people/organisations in Torridge who may have under-used land, suitable for growing predominantly food crops. We use organic and sustainable methods, and shared, collaborative gardening to help improve both mental and physical health. The resulting produce will be shared by volunteers/supporters and excess will be donated to local organisations to encourage healthy eating. We will also be making related products/growing plants for sale.
We want to empower people of all abilities to discover their strengths and have a purposeful impact on the community. There will be additional training opportunities through local adult education providers and, although we will initially depend on volunteers, we do also have a longer-term vision for providing some supported employment.
How could you help?
We are raising money to get our project off the ground, any contributions gratefully received. Please visit our Crowdfunder page to donate:
We would also value any contributions of time, expertise, enthusiasm, materials/gardening equipment; places to work (big or small).
How to contact us:
We generally meet at Bideford Work Club (Bideford Library) on Wednesdays at 11.00am.
