Part of Devon Link-Up, Heathfield Farm is a day centre for people with learning disabilities and/or autism in Devon.
The project to develop Heathfield Farm is being led by Devon Link-Up,
strongly supported by the National Trust, who own the farm.
Heathfield is situated on the outskirts of Broadclyst Village. The farm covers
32 acres of level, fast draining grade 1 agricultural land that is divided by
hedges and fences into 4 main fields, plus an orchard and several farm
buildings. The buildings are a large wooden barn, used to store equipment, a
smaller workshop for woodworking and storing tools and a meeting
room/kitchen with a pleasant outdoor seating area. Our outdoor space also
includes 2 polytunnels, several raised beds, a sensory garden, a wildlife pond
and 2 acres of agriforest.
The atmosphere at the farm is calm and welcoming. We provide meaningful
and purposeful day activities that are ambitious for people with learning
difficulties and/or autism. These activities lead to people developing genuine
community connections, growing in self-esteem, self-belief and self-confidence. We are supporting disadvantaged people to become empowered
and autonomous and to achieve things in their own way, in their own time
and on their own terms.
As a farm, we are naturally interested in the soil, growing food and of course
cooking and eating it! We cover everything from building bird boxes, making
compost and sowing seeds to whipping up a wholesome meal from our own
freshly-picked veg.
