I've always made things, and always used what I had to hand to do so. Taking redundancy in 2014 whilst in my 40s gave me the opportunity to revisit my life, and to start making things for my living. I'm at my happiest when using flame and hammer to coax silver into a shape ;-)
I think it's hugely important that quality is affordable - and affordable not just in the wallet, but to the planet. I make tiny batches of work, often to order and try to ensure that every element of the background to it is sourced responsibly - be it my groceries shopped locally, grown at the allotment (fuelling me and #MrG) reducing waste in every area possible (see my regular #ScrapHappy blog posts) and generally keeping my footprint as light as possible. To this end I use recycled sterling silver and fine silver, generate the electricity used in firing and creating gas for my torch and home, and love to repurpose something sentimental for a customer
Often something will be created after a form or a technique points me in that direction, or is inspired by the local environment (seedpods and plants at the allotment, more organic shapes by the physical landscape of Devon, where we live) I like to think that my work is perfectly imperfect.
My workshop is at home, so I am only open by appointment but you can find me on Etsy, my website, social media and at a few selected local fairs
