Our service provides overnight short breaks care to children and young people with a disability or neurodiversity.
Family Breaks provide overnight short break stays (previously known as respite care) to children and young people with a disability or neurodiversity. Children can be referred to our service via their Local Authority worker and the short breaks stays occur within the home of our checked, trained, approved and dedicated short breaks carers/families.
The short breaks carers are supervised and supported by an experienced team of professionals including social workers, paediatric nurse, child/family practitioner, transition worker, psychologist and business support.
Our goal is for your child to have a fun, safe and engaging experience outside of the family home environment. The child will have opportunity to develop new relationships with others and the short breaks carers will continue to support aspects of care that you would be doing at home, for example community safety, building independence and self-care skills. Whilst the child is having their short break sleepovers with our carers; the child's parents and family receive a break from the possible demands of the caring role.
The service has an excellent introduction process in place, supporting you and your child carefully and sensitively, to build up time and relationships with the carers until everyone is ready for short break sleepovers to start. Short break stays are monitored by the service and the information fed back to you and the child's local authority worker to ensure safety.
We host various fun whole service activities throughout the year that the children can attend as part of the short breaks stays and this provides children with the opportunity to meet other peers also having short breaks. We are an Ofsted regulated service and also part of the national charity, Action for Children.
