Would you like to have fun making a difference in a grounded and connected way as part of a team working in the outdoors?
Would you like to volunteer with the Ranger team at Arlington Court to help, plant, protect and care for trees on the Arlington Estate every Tuesday 9.30am - 3.30pm until mid March. After march we will reassess how often help is needed, but there will be some ongoing opportunites. There may be some flexibility with the day worked and perhaps occassional opportunities to help in other areas of ranger nature restoration work, such as restoring rivers back to their natural floodplains. We would really appreciate your help!
We are planning to plant about 50,000 trees on the estate every year until 2030! Most of our woodland creation this season will be through planting tree saplings, but we will also be incorporating direct seeding of trees and natural colonisation. The work is moderately physical, with a lot of standing and kneeling and mainly involves, planting trees, staking, mulching, making tree guards/cages, and removing weeds that are competing with young trees.
Trees enhance air quality, they give us oxygen, they store carbon combating climate change, stabilise the soil and give life to the world's wildlife. Trees are healing, they offer shade for people and animals, improve mental health and create beautiful, green spaces for communities. We hope to make Arlington wilder, wetter, and woodier to try and give mother nature a helping hand while incorporating public access and enjoyment of nature.
