About us
SisterWood is a grassroots charity supporting girls aged 12–16 to build confidence, creativity, and connection through nature-based programmes. Around the fire and in the woods, girls tell us they feel calmer, safe and like they can be themselves...
Our programme blends practical outdoor skills, reflective practices, and group connection, helping young people develop a toolkit for emotional wellbeing and life’s challenges. We work particularly with those facing social or emotional struggles, and are guided by trauma-informed, anti-oppressive values.
About the role
We are now in an exciting period of growth, exploring new ideas like our intergenerational ‘Elder Strand’, youth governance, and potential site expansion and youth board and expanding our vision while strengthening our systems, and we are looking for a Treasurer to help us grow sustainably and with care.
Location: Remote, with one or two in-person gatherings per year
Time commitment: Approx. 2–4 hours a month. We ask for an initial commitment of 1–3 years, with the option to renew. We’re happy to explore what feels realistic for you, especially as we grow.
Type: Voluntary (unpaid) trustee position
Expenses: Reasonable expenses for in-person gatherings can be reimbursed

- A solid understanding of financial oversight, charity reporting requirements, and risk awareness (we don’t expect you to be a qualified accountant)
- Confidence supporting basic budgeting, PAYE or freelance payment systems, and expense tracking
- An interest in setting up or maintaining straightforward tools (like a simple spreadsheet) to track income and expenditure clearly
- A collaborative, values-led approach, keeping things clear without overcomplication
- Awareness of how financial decisions intersect with safeguarding and operational risk
- Ability to communicate financial matters clearly and accessibly to non-financial trustees
What you'll do
This role is mostly about oversight and clarity rather than complex systems a steady eye on the essentials. You’ll:
- Keep track of SisterWood’s income and expenditure in a clear, accessible way (we’d love your help setting up and maintaining a simple spreadsheet or system that works for us as a small charity)
- Oversee SisterWood’s financial position and ensure we remain sustainable and compliant
- Liaise with our accountant to ensure accurate reporting, smooth financial systems, and timely submissions
- Help translate financial information for the Board and support decision-making grounded in both care and compliance
- Support the Director with budgeting, PAYE/freelance systems, and financial planning
- Present clear, friendly updates to the Board on income, expenditure, and cash flow
- Ensure financial decisions reflect our safeguarding responsibilities and risk
- Help prepare for annual reporting to the Charity Commission
What you'll get
- A meaningful role helping a grassroots organisation thrive
- Collaboration with a friendly, purpose-driven team
- 1–2 in-person gatherings per year (e.g. woodland days or strategy sessions)
- The chance to shape financial systems that reflect ethical, trauma-informed, and inclusive practice
- You’ll be part of a pivotal stage in our journey, helping create financial systems that feel as human and values-led as the work we do in the woods
Why join SisterWood
This is a unique opportunity to support a growing, values-led charity from the inside out. Your work as Treasurer will directly support the wellbeing of young people navigating real challenges and help make SisterWood stronger, clearer, and more sustainable.
You don’t need to be a financial expert, just confident, competent, and aligned with our way of working. If you’re someone who enjoys making things work behind the scenes and believes that finance can be part of care and clarity, we’d love to hear from you.
We’re also at a stage of refreshing and strengthening our Board, so your contribution will have a real, visible impact.
We’ll provide a simple induction and safeguarding introduction to get you started. Beyond that, we want to build a culture where trustees learn together, share their knowledge, and help shape how the Board supports itself as we grow.
