The Folklore Library and Archive is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the collection and preservation of materials relating to the traditions and customs of our past.
Please see our profile for full details. We have a number of opportunities for volunteers to work with our materials and on research projects, both in-person at our physical base in Crediton Library or remotely. For an information chat, please email us but some specific volunteers roles include:
Transcription
We have an ongoing programme of reminiscence interview recording. Volunteers meet with local residents to record informal chats about our history. These audio interviews are made available to listen to online. For maximum accessibility, we would like volunteers to type up transcripts of these interviews.
Cataloguing and Digitisation
We have opportunities to work with our collections in the library and archive on various projects related to cataloguing and digitising of materials to make them accessible to researchers and the public more generally.
Traditional stitch research project
We are running a research project to collect information about traditional knitting and stitch patterns around the world, and to create physical samples of these.
Historic photo research project
We are planning to start a new research project to work with individuals to ensure that their photo collections are in the best condition for the future, so that future generations can interpret them, and to look to capture digital copies of photos which would be of interest to people in the future for our image archives.
If you are interested in any of these opportunities, or volunteering more generally, please email us in the first instance.
