Devon and Cornwall Police are looking for Volunteers to help support the Volunteer Police Cadet (VPC) groups who volunteer within their local communities, attending various events throughout the year and helping with the smooth running of weekly sessions at their local police station.
We are looking for leaders to support our Ivybridge unit who meet each Thursday evening from 7pm to 9pm.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone to use their personal qualities and skills within their community and learn, alongside our Police Cadets, how Devon and Cornwall Police operate. It is a great chance to help give back to your local community by helping shape the understanding of today’s youth by supporting recruitment of Volunteer Police Cadets (VPCs), support the delivery of awareness sessions to help cadets learn legislation and policies, attend events to promote positive community engagement and inspire young people to become good citizens and build their confidence as they become young adults.
As a Cadet Leader, you will need to be friendly and approachable and be open to learning new skills and information that can be shared with others. Specific qualifications are not essential, however previous experience of working with young people (13-17yrs old) is advantageous. There is also a requirement to understand and respect diversity and equality and be a confident communicator.
Whilst performing the role of a Cadet Leader, you will gain valuable skills and qualities of which can be applied in a variety of situations, you will feel part of a team, you will build a ‘feel good’ factor as a volunteer for the police and there may also be the opportunity for you to gain qualifications and knowledge whilst supporting the leadership of the group.
