An opportunity to volunteer with well-loved and respected local charity Hospiscare in the role of Bereavement Teas Volunteer.

Hospiscare is looking for Bereavement Teas Volunteers based in the Community in ;

Axminster - The second Thursday of each month from 14.00 – 16.00 at The Waffle House

Okehampton - The third Wednesday of each month from 10.00 - 12.00 at The Red Lion Cafe

About the Bereavement Teas Role:

Volunteers run our support groups in various locations across the Exeter, Mid and East Devon. Volunteers support the bereaved, by offering a listening ear in a relaxed atmosphere. These sessions offer people an opportunity to drop in and be part of a group for as long as they need to.

Typical activities include:

  • Work with the Supportive Care Team to organise regular groups.
  • Provide supportive listening to those who attend the groups.
  • Communicate any risks identified/significant worries to a member of the Supportive Care Team
  • Attend quarterly team meetings.

What we’re looking for:

  • Use Zoom to attend supervision and team meetings
  • Provide a non-judgemental listening ear
  • Listen and not attempt to ‘counsel’ or offer advice.
  • Show empathy and reliability

What we offer:

  • Monthly supervision and quarterly team meetings
  • A named line manager
  • all the training and support you need to be fully equipped to volunteer safely and effectively.
  • An experienced ‘buddy’ to help you settle in
  • Regular contact with the supportive care team
  • Informal supervision as needed should there be difficult/challenging support /interactions
  • Informal review after six months of volunteering
  • Volunteering review after three years of volunteering
  • Reimbursement of travel and out of pocket expenses

The Bereavement Volunteer role is suited to people who have experience in a caring role, either professionally or personally. You will be supporting individuals and their families in the community.
