Established on 16th March 2020, the Torbay Community Coronavirus Helpline was set up to help the people of Torbay when they didn’t know where to go due to the pandemic – people running out of food, those unable to go out shopping, those in need of prescription medication deliveries, mental health support, and advice covering topics such as financial support or technology guidance. Or even just a listening ear. When lockdowns were lifted we realised that the Torbay Community helpline was still very much needed, to date we have taken over 29,000 calls and helped over 7,000 people including 2,800 referrals to foodbanks.
Led by Torbay Community Development Trust, the Torbay Community Helpline is a collaboration of organisations from the charity and voluntary sector in the Bay including Brixham Does Care, Age UK Torbay, Healthwatch Torbay, Ageing Well Torbay, Torbay food Alliance, Citizens Advice Torbay, the Torbay Advice Network, Homemaker Southwest and What’s Your Problem all working alongside Torbay Council and the Torbay and South Devon NHS Trust.
