Our ability to deliver our mission as a charity – supporting vulnerable people across a large geographic area – is built on the use of an excellent, committed volunteer team who give their time and experience to support people in a variety of practical, social and emotional ways.
This is an important new role to address a genuine need for additional capacity in the MCC staff team.
We need an enthusiastic, creative person to lead on all aspects of our recruitment, training, support and development of volunteers.
This role will work closely with our existing team of skilled and experienced Wellbeing Co-ordinators as we maintain our existing support to local people and explore new opportunities with our communities.
Responsibilities:
· Ongoing recruitment, induction and training of volunteers; matching them to the best volunteer role for them
· Ongoing support and mentoring for volunteers
· In partnership with team colleagues, support MCC’s referral and risk assessment processes ensuring all pre-volunteer checks are carried out inc. DBS checks and referrals
· Maintenance of accurate records relating to the volunteer team
· Develop new promotional material for online and physical communication channels, part of a drive to recruit new volunteers to support our existing services across Bovey Tracey, Ashburton and Buckfastleigh
· Target promotion in particular services
· Develop a refreshed package of training for existing and new volunteers
· Develop a package of support for existing and new volunteers
· To co-ordinate our volunteers and support them in the running of our Moor Social events
· To support the manager and trustees in researching and writing volunteer policies and procedures, including risk assessments
· Celebrating our volunteers through awards, social events, and acknowledgement of the difference they make to MCC
We will look for candidates to demonstrate the following:
Education & Qualifications
● Educated to degree level or equivalent experience evidence at management level
Knowledge
● Knowledge of a range of media including online platforms
● Knowledge and competence in a range of information technology applications including Microsoft Office and remote working software
● Knowledge of GDPR and an awareness of confidentiality issues surrounding this type of work
● Knowledge of risk assessments, adhering to policies and procedures whilst following best practice and continually improving working practices in line with MCC values
Experience
● Experience of successfully co-ordinating projects/new initiatives
● Experience and commitment to quality
● Experience of recruitment and support of volunteers, or demonstrate equivalent experience in a relevant sector
● Experience of developing/commissioning/facilitating training and learning programmes
● Experience of running and co-ordinating events; including managing of project budgets
● Volunteering for charities and organisations experience.
Skills & Abilities
● Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with an ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences
● An ability to represent MCC to external stakeholders, including prospective volunteers and voluntary, community and statutory sector partner organisations
● Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative, to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
● Good administrative skills and an ability to maintain thorough records
● A flexible, non-judgemental approach to people and work
● Driving licence with use of own vehicle
