Teignbridge Homeless Action Today (THAT Food Bank) is a charity based in Queensway, Newton Abbot which is actively working to alleviate poverty in our community.

Assisting those struggling financially and the homeless by supplying them with essential items such as food and toiletries.  We also provide home start packs, fuel key top ups and offer information and a place to chat.

We are looking to appoint a new Chair of the Foodbank, a voluntary unpaid role leading and steering the charity to fulfil its aims.

The role

As THAT Foodbank Chair you will provide leadership and direction to the Board of Trustees, enabling it to fulfil its responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of the food bank. You will have oversight of the charity’s activities guiding it within its core purpose ensuring the food bank abides by its constitutional, financial and legal obligations. Working with the other Trustees you will manage the charities resources and long-term plans. Your support will make a real impact within the community, ensuring families and individuals who are facing the very real issue of food poverty are not alone and receive the help they need.

The qualities you will need

You will have experience in leadership and management, chairing meetings and networking, ideally in a charity environment.  Your skills will include leading, motivating and engaging with people inside and outside of the organisation. You will have excellent interpersonal, decision making and relationship building skills as well as team working, IT and presentation abilities. You will be able to demonstrate tact, integrity, accountability and objectivity and you will be passionate about the work we do and have a commitment to our charity and its cause.

The position is initially for a period of 1 year, is unpaid and the hours are completely flexible and may involve evening and weekend attendance at events and meetings. May involve travel and working from home.
