Barnardo’s is the largest national children’s charity in the UK. We’ve always been driven by supporting children, young people and families who need us because we know that when you change a childhood, you change a life. When life gets tough or it feels like there’s nowhere to turn, we’re here. We make sure children and young people feel safer, happier, healthier and more hopeful, by directly supporting them and their families with specialist services, raising awareness and campaigning to change things for the better.
We are looking for a volunteer befriender for a teenager living in care in the Cullompton area. This role provides a great opportunity to join our fantastic children’s services and help make a real difference.
This is a rewarding role. As a befriender, you will meet regularly with your young person (usually once a month), building an enduring and trusting relationship and having lots of fun. The young person has a good sense of humour, loves animals, football and going out and about for rides, and listening to music. She would love to spend time with someone away from, and independent of, the care environment. Particularly needed is someone who can relate to and understands some of the challenges young people face. Befriending a child is a very responsible role and we are looking for someone who is trustworthy, consistent and will a great role model to their young person.
If you could consistently provide a once a month visit for two to four hours and be able to commit to a minimum of 24 months working with this young person, we’d love to hear from you. As part of the Independent Visitor service, you will be supported by a team in Cornwall for your training and ongoing support.
