We have a specialist Welfare Benefits Team funded by Macmillan Cancer Support.
We are looking for volunteers to support our Macmillan project
Macmillan Client Support Volunteer– what might you do?
- Apply for aids and grants on behalf of clients specifically blue badges and non-client contact applications
- Support the project team to promote the service through marketing activities – at least twice a year mailing out
- Check emails and task lists
Macmillan Outreach Volunteer – what might you do?
- Attend community placements to meet clients – weekly at the Fern Centre in Barnstaple and possibly other outreaches depending on days/availability
- Act as a face for the organisation
- Describe the service to people who haven’t heard of it
- Collect client details to enable our caseworkers to contact them for appointments
- Enter client details on our client management system
- Help with events

What do you need to have?
You don’t need specific qualifications but Are you….
- Friendly and approachable
- Non-judgmental, able to respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own
- Good at listening to others
- Someone with good written and verbal communication skills
- Able to understand information and explain it to others
- Willing to learn about and follow the Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies
- Willing to undertake training in your role

How much time do you need to give?
Ideally we ask for at least 1 day per week (in the case of the Macmillan outreach volunteer this will be a specific day to cover our outreach-TBC upon expression of interest)
