You’ve heard of Gilbert and Sullivan and Richard D’Oyly Carte, but possibly not Helen Lenoir - the powerhouse behind Gilbert and Sullivan and the whole Savoy Empire? Why? Because she was a Victorian WOMAN! Now, Unleashed Community Drama set the record straight by presenting the fascinating story of the fabulous Helen Lenoir who came to Torquay to produce and direct the world premiere of Gilbert and Sullivan's most beloved comic opera 'The Pirates of Penzance'. The true story of how this came to be is brought colourfully to life in this brand new, one-act play, a comical romp through the untold story of Gilbert and Sullivan’s first-ever production of ‘Pirates’ put on in a week at the tiny Bijou Theatre in Paignton. This production is made possible by the Heritage Fund and Torbay Culture with Torbay Council.
