MAKE Southwest is an acclaimed exhibition space for contemporary craft and design as well as a leading charity for craft education. Located in Bovey Tracey on the edge of Dartmoor, our large galleries offer a great venue with inspiring exhibitions and events, encouraging people to support, make and learn about contemporary craft.

MAKE Southwest is a registered charity with educational aims, and profits from our trading ventures, help to subsidise our work, which includes exhibition programme, projects in schools and community groups, lectures, and training.

We are looking for additional Trustees to join us.

We currently have seven Board Members who have a range of interests, expertise, experiences, and networks that they bring to their role of Trustee.

This is currently a small Board, and we are seeking to recruit at least four new board members over the coming 12 months.

Members of the Board need to have a strong interest in our work, expertise in their professional field and time available.

We want to have the necessary skill set on our Board to support our vision and we also need to ensure we reflect a wide range of voices and the many points of view and lived experience of those who work with us in the Southwest.

You do not need a craft or arts background or any qualification to be a Trustee and we are actively seeking to become a more diverse board.

We are looking for people who are passionate about crafts and appreciate the support we provide to our community. In particular, we are looking for people who have experience in one of the following areas:

  • Legal matters (a solicitor or similar);
  • Project managing substantial building projects;
  • Fundraising (you could be a member of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising);
  • Building a strong digital (particularly in developing digital delivery and sales);
  • Someone who could be our next Chair.

Also, we are looking for people who bring knowledge and experience in any of these areas:

  • People who use our facilities as audience members or makers.
  • Strong professional networks in the Southwest.
  • Charity management experience.
  • The craft sector.
  • Experience in the region’s business community.
  • Education – schools/HE/FE/College of Art/ Universities.
  • Leadership role in a public service organisation such as in Local Government, Education, Health, Police etc.

Our customers come from all walks of life and so do we. We want to recruit trustees from a wide variety of backgrounds, not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because it makes MAKE Southwest stronger. If you believe you can make a positive contribution, then do please get in touch. email: [email protected]
