Join Combe Pafford School as a Trustee

Combe Pafford School is currently seeking to appoint new Trustees. This role involves overseeing governance and the strategic direction of the Trust, ensuring strong accountability and support for the school’s leadership as it delivers the very best outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

Located in Watcombe, Torquay, Combe Pafford School supports pupils with a wide range of needs and is continuing to strengthen its specialist offer. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the next stage of the school’s journey and make a meaningful difference for pupils, families and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

·    Governance and Oversight: Ensuring the Board provides effective challenge and support, and that the school adheres to its values.

·    Strategic Planning: Contributing to the development and implementation of the school’s strategic priorities and improvement planning.

·    Financial Management: Supporting oversight of financial performance to ensure sustainability and value for money.

·    Compliance: Ensuring the school meets legal and regulatory requirements, including robust safeguarding oversight.

Ideal Candidate:

·         Experience: Previous experience in governance or a similar role is desirable, but not essential.

·         Skills: Strong strategic thinking and a commitment to improving outcomes for pupils with SEND.

·         Attributes: Integrity, dedication, and the ability to work collaboratively with other Trustees, school leaders and stakeholders.

·         Particular skills or interest (not essential): estates/premises, HR/personnel, finance, or safeguarding.

Time Commitment:

  • Attend three Trust Board meetings per year and three Sub-Committee meetings per year, depending on how many and which sub-committee(s) you are assigned to.
  • Carry out monitoring visits / learning walks once a term.
  • Participate in statutory safeguarding training and other training as required.
  • If required, be willing to take part in panel meetings.
