Hello there!

We are seeking lovely volunteers who love theatre and suppporting creative arts, to help an award-winnig theatre company dedicated to creating opportunities for local people. Time committments are entirely around what you can do; any time you can give is hugely appreciated. All we ask is that you are friendly and reliable.

We are looking for people based in Brixham, to help with the following:

- helping to video and record shows for online projects (all equipment supplied)

- fundraising (helping with grant application forms, running fundraising stalls at fetes and markets, coming up with new ideas for fundraising)

- publicity (costumed walkabouts, making press contacts, door to door leafletting, creating video trailers, coming up with other publicity ideas)

- to help with props building for shows using supplied recycled materials.

The South Devon Players Theatre & Film Company is based in Brixham, and our core work involves performing around the South Devon area, specialising in full length theatre shows based on researched historical events and classical literature.

We were founded during the winter of 2005/6 to create inclusive opportunities for people in the Torbay area (and some from the wider Devon area) to get involved in creating high-quality theatre and thereby develop / further professional skills, careers and portfolios towards working in the entertainment industry.  We welcome people from absolute beginners, through to people who have been professional performers for decades, and all work together in a friendly, supportive team, and are open to people of all ages from 16, to, dare I say it, 116.

People working with us have gone on to work in large scale film & TV productions, to further training inclusive of RADA and Bristol Old Vic, and to obtain the credits needed for professional registration with the actors' Spotlight directory which in turns allows them to be able to apply to register with larger actors agencies. Audience feedback is also extremely positive from our shows and projects.

Our work, over the past few years has won several awards including on a national and international scale; we are the All-England winner of the "Epic Award" 2017 (now rebranded as the Creative Lives Award) and the Theatre Partner Award in the Long Island Theatre Awards 2019 (New York).

Post-pandemic, we are also now linking with various organisations, including regional universities, to widen our community offerings through education and placements.

Back down "on the ground", I am looking for positive people who love theatre, would have some time to spare, to help me with various admin tasks; I do a lot of the admin "single handed", and as someone who is autistic, I can find some of the communication-based admin things quite challenging when having to present our work and aims to people outside what we do, which has seriously held us back, and I  would find some help incredibly useful.

Due to (among my shortcomings) not being great at filling out grant applications, I dont have funds to pay, hence the call for volunteers.

I can offer the chance to be involved with really lovely people, making a real difference to local creative people, and plenty of coffee - along with references and portfolio photos/ materials for any future work/ volunteering/ education.

I am especially looking for people interested in helping me with fundraising and publicity for the group.

I have put a link below to a volunteering page on our website, which has the details of our current volunteer calls.

Some people have offered to help in the past, but only if I have an office for them to work out of, and for the sake of clarity, we don't have an office or space like that to do things like that from. I am happy to meet people on a regular basis at my friend's cafe in Brixham, or at the community centre where we rehearse, an hour before rehearsals.  Some of the things can be done from home, and some are for going "out and about".   I would be so grateful to hear from people interested in helping with any of it, and to meet up in Brixham for an informal chat over coffee.
