We have provided support to thousands of parents via our free, online course ‘The Horizon Plan’, which teaches our clinical process to support young people struggling with mental health. The Horizon Plan is recommended by NHS trusts and NHS Recovery Colleges across the UK, including Devon Partnership NHS Trust, and currently has over 900 parents and carers enrolled. Our online course is made up of 5 free-to-access modules, with Module 1 live and Module 2 being released shortly.
We are addressing the need for an educational support structure for parents/carers caring for a young person struggling with mental health and self-harm in order to prevent the escalation towards suicidal ideation. With training and support there is a key role that parents/carers can play to support a child’s recovery.
This need was identified through our founders’ lived experience of guiding their teenage daughter’s recovery from anxiety, depression, self-harm and eating disorders. In 2022, children in mental health crisis spent more than 900,000 hours in A&E units in England. Young people referred to CAMHS face extensive waits of many months for help. Families are trying to support their young person in crisis but without guidance or support.
The Horizon Plan is preventative and aims to address this gap in provision, reducing the risk of mental health deterioration in young people and supporting statutory services who are under a great deal of strain following the COVID-19 pandemic.
