“When the Community Comes Together”

I am writing to you from the Carousel Community Projects non profit collaboration, and we are currently planning The Great Torquay Community Balloon Race. The event will take place in 2023 from 11:30am to 6.30pm at a location to be confirmed. Working in cooperation with Torbay Council, I am applying for the event be held at Torre Abbey Meadows.

All balloons used at the main event will be bio-degradable.

Promotional events supporting the Great Balloon Race

We are seeking support from local pubs and other businesses to hold promotional events in the weeks running up to the Great Balloon Race. The public and local companies in Torquay have been very encouraging with gift contributions for prizes to be used in raffles or competitions at such events and Rascals Entertainment can supply a sound system for live music and DJ equipment to spin nostalgic dance music as well as producing printed poster publicity.

We will also be promoting both the Great Torquay Community Balloon Race and supporting events with interviews on local radio.

If you are a local business or venue wishing to support us, please get in touch via the contact details below.

About Carousel Community Projects, Torquay.

Carousel Community Projects is dedicated to supporting vulnerable persons who have mental health issues including depression, anxiety, and stress.

Anxiety is an extreme apprehension accompanied by unpleasant symptoms such as:

  • Feeling nervous, irritable, or on edge
  • Having a sense of impending doom or danger
  • Increased heart rate, breathing rapidly, sweating or trembling
  • Feeling weak or tired
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Gastrointestinal problems
  • Sudden episodes of intense fear that triggers severe physical reactions

Research has shown that the Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in increased levels of anxiety, depression and mental health problems across the population. Those who were more likely to struggle with their mental health before the pandemic have been most affected and urgently need tailored support.

The Carousel Community Projects aims to create a series of activities designed to reduce isolation and anxiety in people experiencing problems with their wellbeing, including group sessions for make and repair workshops, upholstery, sound recording and silk screen printing (studio recording equipment and printing apparatus have been donated by a member of the public).

The third part of our concept is The Carousel Social Members Club which would provide a safe haven for social gatherings in the evenings.

I look forward to hearing form anyone interested in supporting us with our fundraising events and work.
