Are you a tech savvy wiz? Do you enjoy problem-solving, have an analytical mind, do not give up easily on challenging tasks and are willing to persevere even when everyone else has given up?

Can you visualise, gather accurate information, articulate, analyse, and handle tech problems? If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.

You’ll be in touch with teams from across the organisation, providing them with guidance and advice on technical problems, helping them to problem solve, so that they can get on with the job of being there for children and young people with cancer. In addition, we are a close-knit team that understands the importance of supporting each other ‘s work and looking after everyone’s well-being.

What you’ll be doing

  • Responding to requests received at the Technology Service Desk via phone, email, or web submission. Triage and escalate tickets as appropriate
  • Troubleshooting and providing support for 1st Line IT and Technology issues
  • Carrying out basic Systems Administration including creating new user accounts and setting passwords
  • Configuring, updating hardware and software as required, we’ll make sure you are supported with the right knowledge to do this
  • Supporting the maintenance of an inventory of the charity’s hardware and software assets
  • Undertaking small projects within IT operating plan/strategic priorities ensuring completion to timescale, scope, and budget.
  • We want to know what project and skill areas you are interested in developing and giving you the opportunity to gain experience in areas of interest

There will be lots going on in this role, so being good at multitasking, prioritising your tasks, and organising well can be extremely useful. In addition, your excellent listening, questioning, and communication skills enable you to have a practical approach to gathering the correct information from those who need our support.

The volunteer that’s right for this role will have a knowledge of and interest in IT, and technical troubleshooting. In addition, they should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Windows Operating Systems.

At Young Lives vs Cancer, we recognise that opportunities for too many people remain a condition of their race, class, sex, disability, sexual orientation – or a combination. This has never been acceptable to us as an organisation. At Young Lives vs Cancer, we do not just accept difference — we value it, we celebrate it, we nurture it, and we thrive off it. We positively welcome your application irrespective of your background.

We are on a journey, and if you join us, you will be part of a community that is committed make a difference to the lives of children and young people with cancer.

We are looking for someone who could give between 10 to 15 hours of their time a week during office hours. However, we can discuss this during our informal chat because we are happy to be flexible so that you can fit your volunteering around other commitments.

This role could be based in our London or Bristol office or remotely, and we can explore these options together.
