I am starting this conversation as there will probably be people impacted by this or know someone who may be impacted.

Windows 10 is reaching End of support,  this means Microsoft will no longer provide updates and this includes the all important security updates/

Users have several options

1  Update to Windows 11, if current hardware supports Windows 11.   Microsoft would prefer you to buy a new system, as this has hardware that supports some specific Windows 11 features.   In our current cost of living climate, this is not always an option when there

2 Buy a new computer or laptop. (see above)

However, there are alternative options

Install an alternative operating system such as Linuxmint [3]

The End of 10 Website [1] has a list of people or events where you may be able to get help,   there are not many options in Devon at the moment, so I would encourage anyone who can help to see if they can get listed on the site or make it known they can help.

I am a member of the Devon and Cornwall Linux user group [2] they run a e-mail discussion list which at present is very low traffic, so it is worth asking on there for help and we may be able put you in touch with people either on the list or externally who can help.

1. End of 10

2. Devon and Cornwall Linux user group

3 Linuxmint

Note:  While I am a user of, and an advocate of Free and Open source software, I FULLY appreciate this is not the best option for everyone, however I do believe that getting impartial advice is really useful, esp if your current hardware works fine, and you don't want to be simply sold new hardware.

There may be other options other than the above group to get help from, however we can help with Linux and free software as best we can.

I just want to raise awareness of what is happening, and the fact people have options.

I have tried my best to tick the right boxes below.
