This is an in-person, flexible volunteering opportunity based in and around Exeter. By volunteering between 4-8 hours a month you’ll ensure people living with secondary breast cancer are aware of the support available locally to them. We’re looking for someone to volunteer for 3-6 months.

Applications for this role close on 17 August at 11pm.

As a services promotion volunteer, you’ll be supporting us to move closer to our mission to ensure that by 2050 everyone diagnosed with breast cancer will live and be supported to live well.

Our Living with Secondary Breast Cancer groups offer support and information to anyone living with a diagnosis of secondary (metastatic) breast cancer in the UK. The groups offer a safe space where people can come to talk freely ad share experiences and mutual support with others who understand.

What will I be doing?

  • You’ll be distributing posters and leaflets to promote the Living with Secondary Breast Cancer group in community spaces like GPs, pharmacies, and libraries.
  • You’ll revisit the locations monthly to keep resources updated and replace them as needed.
  • We’ll provide easy access to the resources you need and support from one of the secondary breast cancer services team.

What skills and qualities do I need?

  • Willingness to travel around your community (by car or public transport, expenses covered)
  • Able to work on your initiative
  • Confident using the internet, email and phone (or a willingness to learn)
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Able to work within Breast Cancer Now’s policies and guidelines

What training and support will I receive?

  • You’ll attend a 2-hour online welcome workshop introducing you to the charity
  • You’ll receive role specific training and have a key contact in the Secondary breast cancer services team
  • Breast Cancer Now will reimburse reasonable expenses in line with our expenses policy

What will I gain from this role?

  • Knowing that you’re supporting people living with secondary breast cancer to access support in Exeter
  • Experience of volunteering in a marketing or promotional role
  • The opportunity to meet and connect with volunteers and Breast Cancer Now staff
