Seachange is a registered charity (1196379) based in East Devon. Opening in 2017, it was shaped and set up by the community when the former Budleigh Salterton Community Hospital was transformed, as a result of local funding efforts into a vibrant community health and wellbeing centre.
The charity brings together residents, activity groups, other charities, NHS services, transport, a children’s nursery, a gym, a café, and organisations as one community. By integrating everything in this way and creating a safe place we improve the lives of people across the whole of our community by providing and enabling a range of opportunities:
- Multigenerational activity clubs for all abilities including singing, musical instruments, arts, crafts, seated exercise, healthy food and lunch clubs.
- Inclusive and non-intimidating gym and exercise classes for general fitness, rehab and as part of social prescribing referrals.
- Early years nursery and baby/toddlers’ group with integrated activities with other clubs and generations along with more traditional learning.
- Onsite Launchpad café operated by trainees with learning disabilities from the wider East Devon area. The café also provides a welcoming meeting point and safe space for carers and the wider public.
- Over 100 NHS outreach clinics and outpatient services including eye screening, cancer, cardiac, podiatry, audiology, physiotherapy and GP clinics.
- Specialists’ activities for those with conditions such as dementia and head injuries including cognitive stimulation therapy and a memory café.
- Accessible meeting, activity and offices spaces for local community organisations and groups to use.
- Volunteer led transport service providing travel to Seachange, hospital and medical appointments.
- Information hub and access to local Citizens Advice Bureau portal and helplines.
Seachange serves the 50,000 people within the Woodbury, Exmouth and Budleigh
coastal area of East Devon.
