Restorative Justice Volunteers

We are looking for members of the community across Devon, who are over 18 years, to become volunteer Referral Order Panel members.

Being a panel member will involve attending Referral Order Panel meetings. These are community sentences given to children who have been convicted of a criminal offence. The panel brings the child, their parents/carers and the views of the victim(s) together to discuss what has happened, how they can repair the harm caused and identify what support they need  to stop further offending and move forwards with their lives.

The panel will co-produce a ‘contract’ with the child which should include a variety of goals, activities and restorative interventions. The meetings are not a punishment, they enable children to recognise the consequences of their behaviour and take responsibility for their actions.

Becoming a volunteer involves:

  • Making a difference to the social, educational and personal development of children
  • Helping your community to stay safe
  • Ensuring the voices of victims of crime are heard
  • Gaining new skills, knowledge and experience

As a volunteer you will receive a full induction and a six day training programme spread across five weeks to prepare for the role. In addition, you will have ongoing training opportunities and support throughout from our Referral Order Panel coordinator.

An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be conducted at no cost to you. Travel expenses can be reclaimed.  Closing date for applications 14th February 2025
