National charity Read Easy is looking for volunteers to help adults learn to read in the Okehampton area. We are growing fast as the embarrassment of seeking help is reducing and as people hear the remarkable success stories of those who learn with us.
We provide 1-1 coaching to help adults learn to read using a 100% volunteer team. You may have seen us on the BBC documentary where Jay Blades of the Repair Shop learned to read with us. We are looking for volunteers who can spare an hour or so a week to help people learn to read. You’ll be using a simple practical and proven method that can transform people’s lives. You don’t need to have worked as a teacher before, but you do need to be flexible, gentle, kind and supportive. We provide full training - if you can commit to a couple of half hour sessions most weeks. You’ll have great support if you need it, including access to a literacy specialist.
If you’d like to find out more, email
[email protected] and introduce yourself. We look forward to hearing from you.
