Formed in 2005, we are a charity that provides 'safe & affordable sailing' for the disabled. We are entering a period of exciting restructuring and are looking for someone with strong governance awareness and understanding of policy, compliance and accountability. You will oversee our existing policies which include safeguarding, GDPR, environmental, membership, equality, health & safety, disability awareness and accident investigation. Strategically, you will provide key support in assisting us move forward, ensuring we respond to mounting marine and other regulatory pressures associated with working with vulnerable adults and children. You will work closely with the fundraising team to ensure accountability to funders. You will advise the Training & Standards Group (TSG) and the Bosun's Team to ensure compliance and successful regulatory inspections. You will assist us navigating the ethical challenges of the modern digital world, whilst working with the most vulnerable in society. We run 2 x 38ft yachts and the season starts in April. An exciting time to join us and if you are interested in sailing there are opportinities to crew, though this is not essential.
Duties include :
Governance, Compliance & Management Support
Support the management committee (MC) with all governance processes, ensuring compliance to charity law.
Monitor compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
Review and update policies which include :
Data Protection & GDPR
Maintain data protection policy, data retention schedule and liaise with the IT team re. secure storage.
Safeguarding
Support the Safeguarding Officer with training schedules, record keeping and incident management.
Health & Safety
Support the work of the Health & Safety Officer.
Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
Whistleblowing
Membership
Environmental
Regulatory reporting. Ensure compliance with the Charity Commission. Accurate registration of Trustees and submission of annual returns.
Ensure transparency and accountability in reporting to funders and regulators (Royal Yachting Association (RYA), Maritime & Coastguard Agency MCA).
Training & Awareness.
Approx 7-15hrs a week, though this will reduce as the new structure settles in. A DBS check and interview will be required. You can work remotely, but will be expected to attend a monthly or bimonthly evening meeting in Torquay or remotely via MS Teams.
