As there doesn't seem to be much appetite for this I think I will have to close this campaign. If anybody has any thoughts about this please let me know...andre@involve-middevon.org.uk
Thanks to everyone who has contributed!
X1 black bag Cullompton North, Sunday 11th June. The McDonald’s litter strewn down millennium Sunday morning was shameful, I have done many litter picks and this was one of the worst instances of blatant littering. Does McDonald’s contribute any time, resource or money to Cullompton parish council in relation to increased waste and litter?
Two things....Firstly, well done! Your black bag takes us to the 50 mark which is a milestone! Secondly, I will mention your comments to McDonalds...they used to collect litter within 50m of their shops in the olden days....not sure if they do now....Thanks again!
I talked to the assistant manager at McDonalds and he said the responsibility lies with Extra, the company who owns the land and they normally send out litter patrols...even though McDonalds do their own litter picking in the immediate vicinity of the store. He has said he will ask for additional litter picking support.... Fair enough - he didn't shirk the responsibility.
X2 black bin bags Sunday 4th July from Cullompton North. Bumped into another litter picker on Sunday, apparently they found it difficult to register on this site, I’m not sure why. What is interesting is that there are other out there that feel the same - is there a better and easier accessible format than here (just a thought)
Ah no! This is a test project to see if the site works...Generally, signing on does not seem to be a problem so this is news to us! If you know anybody who has had difficulty in signing on can you ask them to contact me please! andre@involve-middevon.org.uk is probably easiest...
Hi Andre, I will do if I see them again, although the person in question maybe anti/not keen on social media/ social content sites and of course their IT literacy I don’t know. I thought this would be useful feedback though. Just as a thought sometime it maybe good to share some photos of the work that’s being done out in the community - just a thought (I know there is a legal consent issue here but perhaps it might be nice as a story) pictures may generate more interes
Yes, point taken...but the sign up procedure is what it is...we can't change that. I know there may always be an issue with IT skills and just plain fear of the internet but I can't overcome that. I think it would be useful if you can go on Positive Cullompton and blow the trumpet though! :)
Hi “T” I do the same as well I and another litter collector meet every Sunday morning, please keep doing it! And encourage other to do the same it is worth it. We have 40 bags registered now (we have taken that out of our environment)
Hi T, Great that you can join us! Given that the original idea was to use shopping bags if you collect 1 big bag (a bin bag for instance) we count it as two here. Although people collect litter in Cullompton we only count the bags that are registered here every week so please continue to add your collection to our total! All the best!
X2 black bags today Sunday 27th June from Cullompton North. The message is getting through other people have started to pick up rubbish now as well - keep it going! Cullompton 😀😀♻️🚮
Two bags this week...from the river Culm! Involved in a spot of invasive species clearance but the bags were from plastic and stuff in the river itself.
Another 2 bags this week...In truth, I always carry a couple of plastic bags with me now so I can do the odd bit here and there. I have to say that it gives me a lot of satisfaction! :)
X2 large bags collect from Cullompton North, Sunday 30th May. Willand Road, Millennium Way, Station Road, Higher Street. Starting to see some improvements in litter levels but still too much. Keep it going though, saving our world and our community one bit of litter at a time. 😀
X3 large bags collected Sunday 23rd May. Cullompton North, Willand Road, Millennium Way, Station Road, Higher Street. Did anyone know there is only 1 public litter bin located on Station Road, and it is located at the top of Station Road by the Public Toilets. For such a busy Road in Cullompton it should have many more bins than what it has.
X1 large bag collected Monday 17th May from Cullompton North, Willand Road, Millennium Way, Station Road, Higher Street, noticeable decrease in litter on all roads except Millennium Way I believe this is due to littering from cars and vehicles and not the local community. Keep it going everyone, our efforts are paying off.
X2 large ware bags of litter collected Sunday 9th May, Cullompton North, Willand Road, Millennium Way, Station Road, Higher Street. Agreed the accumulated litter and general litter dropped is getting better - Cullompton could still do better though. More people are needed to do this picking up and to take greater pride in our community. Keep it going everyone!
Completely agree the amount of litter is decreasing and less accumulation. I am finding patterns and locations where it’s the same people littering all the time! Plus there is a distinct lack of public litter bins on Station Road, there is one bin and it’s located by the public toilets at the top of Station Road, for such a busy street it needs to have more bins.
X2 large bags of litter today, from Cullompton North. Willand Road, St Georges Well, Millennium Way, Station Road, Fore Street. Keep it going Cullompton.
Hmmm...can I quote you on this on the Positive Cullompton Facebook page....it may galvanize more people to sign up. I know people are collecting litter but it would be fab if more people actually registered it here....there would be a greater sense of community involvement.
Absolutely! Please do! Litter is such a urgent problem, not only is it unsightly the negative impact it has on wildlife our mental health, our feeling of safety from crime and it also devalues property prices. There are 2 of us here that litter pick every Sunday morning between 6:15am and 7:30 we start from the corner of St Georges View.
X2 medium sized bags collected this morning Saturday 10th April. from Cullompton North, St Georges Well, Willand Road, Millennium Way. Looks really tidy and healthy out there! Keep it up Cullompton let’s get rid of the litter!
