MARY TOZER began painting watercolours in 1972, illustrating stories and poems she had written. Her paintings have been exhibited regularly through galleries in London and the United States, as well as the South West of England, where she moved from the London area in 1984.
Having previously worked as a technical illustrator, she developed an intricate style in which the themes of myth, folk stories and fairy tales arepresented in the manner of medieval illumination, often employing humorous borders.
She has had many illustrated children's books published, based on nursery rhymes, her own stories and classic fairy tales. This illustrative style is complimented by an interest in painting from studies of flowers, hedgerows and still life.
Both styles of work have been published as greetings cards, calendars and even jigsaws.
Attendees of this special illustration workshop can bring their own short story or children's tales with a view to working out illustrations.
Mary will be able to help bring your characters to life, advise on page layouts, content, etc.
Who knows; one day your own story book could be on the shelves of this library!
